What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is the study of the reflexes.

Reflexology is an applied pressure technique, that supports the whole body’s return to balance (homeostasis) through accessing pressure points on the foot and is beneficial to the nervous system as it helps to eliminate stress from the body. Reflexology sessions are known to promote the removal of toxins from the body, improve digestion and our circulatory system, and improve our quality of sleep.

help you?

Some benefits my clients experience include:

  • reduced stress

  • improved digestion

  • reduced inflammation

  • improved wellness

  • increased mobility

  • enhanced relaxation

  • deeper sleep

  • greater sense of clarity

The body has the ability to heal itself. Reflexology helps the body to find the state of balance, or homeostasis, where it’s easier for it to go deeper into a state of rest that is supportive for the body’s natural healing processes to happen.

Because the effects are dependent on your body’s unique state, the benefits that each person will feel are completely unique to them.

Heather’s senstive, trained hands can feel tiny deposits & imbalances and work on those points to help your body get into that healing state.

Reflexology is one of the safest & least invasive complementary therapeutic practices available.

Reflexology is non-invasive treatment & experienced while fully clothed.

What happens in a reflexology session?

If you have never received a session, we will begin with a brief health history and an explanation on how reflexology works and what happens during your session. You can then rest on a massage table, zero gravity chair, or a comfortable recliner. You will never be asked to undress for Reflexology!

  • We might work with one or many reflex points dependent on what your body is asking for & your intention for the session.

  • Sessions may last between 30-120 minutes.

  • Heather provides pillows, blankets, and soothing music to help keep you comfortable.

Testimonials

  • Kierstin H.

Heathers Reflexology was incredible; from her welcoming energy, to the cozy beautiful space where I nestled in and felt right at home. Heather is so skilled, and gave me lots of great info, as well as space to relax and absorb all the benefits of her treatment. I had never had reflexology, and I loved it, will for sure book again.

I has been experiencing pain in my foot & although not debilitating, it was not going away with mobility exercises or acupuncture. Heather walked me through every step of her process and explained why she was doing what she was doing, which I found very insightful. Now, weeks later, I can confirm that the pain has not returned. I would absolutely recommend reflexology with Heather!

  • Lyndele G.

After a terrible hip injury last June, I'm still struggling with pain/discomfort/imbalance with that hip, but the morning after my reflexology session with Heather I've woken up without a limp for the first time in a week!

Yesterday felt so good that in that beautiful blissful state, I immediately booked 2 more sessions for the month!

    ZERO REGRETS!

  • Mackenzie R.

What stood out most about Heather's approach was her ability to create a holistic experience. Beyond just the physical benefits of hand & foot reflexology, I felt a profound sense of mental clarity and rejuvenation. Heather's passion for her craft was evident in every movement, and I left the session feeling refreshed, renewed, and eagerly anticipating my next appointment.

FAQs

  • Session frequency may vary depending on the outcomes desired. General maintenance or preventative health care could be once every 1-6 weeks depending on the person.

Generally, I don’t make specific recommendations on the frequency of treatment, but say that if it is supportive, and you don’t have much other time for conscious rest, more often is better than less.

  • The pressure used in reflexology is generally firm enough that people do not feel ticklish after a moment or two. That being said, if it is uncomfortable - I am happy to offer a hand reflexology, or reiki session as an alternative.

  • Generally, you will feel relaxed and maybe even a little tired. Rest or quiet time is supportive to allow the body to rest and restore.

Possible outcomes over 1-3 days may also include:

    • Varying sleep patterns from deep to restless sleep

    • More frequent and noticeable dreams

    • Emotional changes with a greater awareness of feelings

    • Urination may increase and/or vary in colour, odour as toxins leave the body

    • Increase in bowel movement/volume from stimulation to digestive organs points in feet

    • A desire to drink more water to flush toxins and impurities from the body

Sometimes clients experience mild discomfort in their feet after a session as we have moved some of their imbalances around. If this happens, an epsom salt soak can be supportive to relieving discomfort and supporting removal of toxins.

  • For sessions in the clinic, you have the option of a reclining chair or a comfortable massage table with pillows, and blankets to keep your body ergonomics and temperature comfortable. During the fall and winter months, the bed is pre-warmed for extra coziness.

Off site sessions are provided in a zero-gravity char with pillows and blankets for comfort.

  • The beginning of every Reflexology treatment starts with a conversation to go over your health history and discuss your wellness concerns, after that, you’re welcome to embrace the peace and healing that comes with a quiet space or to chat if you have a lot on your mind and need a compassionate ear.

This is your time for you. It can be used however you like.

Do not hesitate to ask for bathroom break during session.

  • The professional practice of reflexology has a place in the integrative health system. As such, many health insurance companies are now expanding their coverage to include reflexology providers.

You will need to check your benefits plan to see if there is coverage available. I will provide you with a receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider if you would like to try.

Some providers may request that your reflexologist be registered with the Reflexology Association of Canada. While I am a Certified Reflexologist, registration with RAC is currently optional, and I have not done it at this time.

  • Anxiety - Foot reflexology may reduce anxiety as it stimulates particular nerve endings (reflex points) in the feet, promoting a sense of relaxation and well-being which in turn can help the body regenerate itself.

Digestive issues - Your digestive system can easily be disrupted, causing constipation, diarrhea, IBS, Crohn's Disease. Reflexology may address digestive issues by promoting stress relief and easing digestive tension, by calming working with digestive points.

Menopausal Symptoms - Reflexology can help alleviate both the physical (hot flashes, heart palpitations) and emotional systems (irritability, anxiety) helping to cope better through this transitional time.

Circulation - Reflexology can improve blood circulation in the feet and throughout the body. Tingly, numb and cold feet can be a sign of poor circulation. Swollen feet and ankles as well as discoloration of toes and feet can also be a sign of poor circulation. Application of certain thumb, finger and hand techniques can improve blood to vital organs supporting your body’s ability to heal itself.

Sleep - A simple reflexology routine can help you drift off to sleep naturally. Reflexes corresponding to the brain and pineal gland will be stimulated, helping to balance the release of the natural sleep hormone melatonin, which is very important for healthy sleep.

  • Yes! Pregnant folks can also benefit from reflexology, as this is a gentle and safe technique. If you are unsure if it’s right for you, always consult your healthcare providers, as it is generally considered safe during pregnancy but there are always exceptions based on your personal health.

Reflexology is embraced by anyone interested in preventive health, offering a proactive approach to maintaining overall well-being and identifying potential issues before they escalate, including pregant people.
